Jay Chou returns to Taiwan to film MV for Cindy Yen

jay chou cindy yen

Cindy Yen (袁咏琳 - Yen Yong Lin) is a new female singer, come from classical music background. Cindy was born in Texas America, and start to learn Piano at 5 years and the violin at 10 years old.

What make Cindy Yen famous is her duet song with Jay Chou "Sand Painting" or Hua Sha (画沙). Although Jay Chou has been busy filming "The Green Hornet" in Hollywood, he recently in order to fully support his junior female apprentice Cindy Yen, he took time out of his busy schedule to fly back to Taipei to film the MV for the two's duet "Sand Painting", the director Kuang Sheng built a massive sand shore on the set, he hired the only spray paint teacher in Taiwan to spray on the wall ever changing clouds. Jay Chou especially played the cello for Cindy in the MV, on the other hand Cindy Yen showed off her piano skills and violin skills, the two "harmonize the two instruments to perform the beautiful dialogue between the piano and cello."

Jay Chou sang the r&b song "Sand Painting" with Cindy, it's an exception to his usual practice of only singing songs he has written himself with girls. According to reports, Cindy went through a lot during the writing of "Sand Painting", when she wrote the first version she didn't dare to give it directly to Jay Chou, she hid outside the recording studio watching Jay's reaction, after "judging" it Jay Chou said: "This song's not bad, but it's more suitable for you to sing it yourself." After being rejected all Cindy could do was go back and try harder, she kept on thinking about what song would be suitable for her to sing with her senior male apprentice, she gave him a second song, after hearing it, he said: "Yea, keep trying!" She knew it wasn't ok, after suffering rejection twice in a row, Cindy persisted in doing her best, she kept thinking about music that suits both their domains and feel, she even especially designed a rap in the song for Jay Chou, she worked on it all night, and at last got Jay Chou's approval.

When filming the MV, Cindy's piano and violin were against Jay Chou's cello, the set was filled with smoke. After their battle, Jay Chou praised her musical ability: "Cindy's piano playing skills are really amazing! She is as good as Yuhao, but for a girl to be able to play at this pace and crazy power, it's really cool and surprising! She was completely different when I was singing with her, you see she is very quiet when singing, but once she starts playing the piano she is completely different! The important point is she can write songs, you have your own style by writing your own songs!"

Cindy was very grateful to Jay Chou, what made her even more touched was that Jay Chou rushed to the set to join the filming as soon as he returned to Taiwan, it was her first time filming an MV, Cindy said: "I was so nervous I couldn't sleep! I had not idea whatsoever what I had to prepare, my senior apprentice told me I had to relax, he looked after me like a sister, I'm so lucky to be able to sing with my senior apprentice!"

After receiving guidance from Jay Chou, Cindy quickly learned how to get into the state, in order to set the scene for the song, they built a sand setting on the set, with the wind blowing the sand after the filming Cindy had sand all over her, she didn't mind and said it was all worth it! In the MV Jay Chou had a mixed style look, a black jacket, white trainers, he had on a hip hop cap and leather gloves, he matched the mix of classical and r&b of this song, when he was playing the cello he put out a cool pose, with a speed so fast that your ears can't catch up, he played out the melody from the cello at lightning speed, the director was stunned! He laughed saying he really knows how to show off!

Jay Chou didn't forget to teach the newcomer Cindy, firstly he laughed saying she had to be careful of the paparazzi! He also told her: "Don't mind too much about discussions online, because writers don't take attacks! There's lots online, a majority of them are jealous, envious." He said directly: "I think you have to know how to readjust yourself."

Jay Chou plays as Green Hornet Kato

After a long worldwide search, finally Taiwan's pop singer Jay Chou will star alongside Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz in the movie remake of popular US television series "The Green Hornet," reports here said Saturday.

According to Hong Kong media, since Stephen Chow gave up on starring in "The Green Hornet", the Kato role has been up in the air, yesterday (7th of August), the movie company filming this movie finally confirmed Jay Chou is going to play The Green Hornet's assistant Kato in place Stephen Chow, Jay Chou is officially advancing into Hollywood.

It was rumoured that Stephen Chow stood down as the director and gave up on starring in the movie because of differing opinions behind the scenes, since then the Kato role has been up in the air, even though it was once rumoured that Korean star Kwon Sang Woo was taking on the role, but Stephen Chow's assistant recently exposed online stating that Jay Chou was going to play Kato.

Chou, 30, has been cast as the superhero's sidekick Kato, a role played by the late Chinese-American martial arts icon Bruce Lee about 40 years ago, said the United Daily News.

"I am very happy to act in an international film. I will do my best," the paper quoted Chou as saying in a statement issued by his company JVR Music.

Chou won the role after a video-link audition a month ago with the movie's director Michel Gondry and writer Seth Rogen, who will play the lead role Britt Reid, or The Green Hornet, the report said.

Chou will start shooting for the film, scheduled to be released on July 9 2010, after wrapping up his directorial work for a television series and two concerts in China, it said.

The Apple Daily said Chou replaced Hong Kong star Stephen Chow, who was originally set to direct and act in the film, but had pulled out due to differences with Columbia Pictures.

Chou, also famous in China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia for his pop music, has expanded into filmmaking in recent years, starring in a number of box-office hits including "Initial D," "The Curse of the Golden Flower" and "Secret."

“It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.” Chou Said.

Jay Chou Concert in Fushan

jay chou concert fushan

Jay Chou's first major world tour concert since becoming his own boss will be arriving in Fushan Shijilian stadium on the 22nd of August. Yesterday afternoon, even though Jay Chou did not appear, but the concert ticket pre-order event at the Baihua mall in Fushan still attracted a lot of fans.

Reporters found out that in the 3 hour or so performance, Jay Chou will be singing nearly 30 old and new songs, the "transforming stage" that cost millions to make is as long as 97 metres, it can be like Astroboy's arms and extend. This article is translated by http://www.jaychoustudio.com

Another major point in Jay Chou's tour this time round is that at each stop he has integrated some culture from the place the concert is taking place, for example in Beijing is played with diabolos, in Tianjin he did allegro, so what surprise will he bring to fans in Fushan next month, at present it is still a mystery

Jay Chou challenges the fairness of Golden Melody Awards

jay chou golden melody awards

Jay Chou, who is nominated for the most number of awards at the 20th Taiwan Golden Melody Awards, is said to be forgoing the ceremony for a commercial event. Chou expressed his views when he took on an interview in Taiwan.

He defended his intentions and said he could not pull out of the commercial event because a contract has been signed with the client. Chou added, "If the award is fair, I will win even if I do not attend."

Chou expressed that he has always taken the awards very seriously and would always be dressed in his best outfit for the event. The last time round, he even brought his grandmother, but did not expect to lose in all his nominations. While he was disappointed with the results, Chou also felt disappointed for having failed to bring pride to the elder lady. Later, he wrote a song titled "Grandmother" in memory of this incident.

Many years now, Chou claimed to have cast away the shadow of the unpleasant incident and does not insist on attending any awards ceremony anymore.

In comparison to Hong Kong's heavenly king Jacky Cheung who is still highly respected in the music industry despite having withdrawn from the music awards ceremony, Chou said he recognized the fact that he is still a far cry from where the former is standing.

Chou said, "I registered myself for the Golden Melody Awards this year. With this, I believe I am still concerned about winning or losing the awards. If I can arrive at Jacky Cheung's position in the music industry, I will probably be like him and just forget about registering and collecting the award."

The pop idol re-emphasized that the awards is just a game to him. "The award is definitely a great form of encouragement for singers. But even if I manage to win an award, it only means that I'm lucky for those few days. It doesn't mean I'm a winner forever. It's like a game; by winning one round would mean that I'm just achieved victory once, it doesn't mean I'll win every time. I've learnt to be humble about winning."
